In memory of the victims of September 11th 2001

(By Evings Pierre or PS for the eFriends)

On the early morning of September 11th 2001, the world was awakened by the devilish and cowardly act of a few insane SOBs. Suddenly our sweet liberty was forever disturbed, and our long nurtured freedom chattered. As we reflect a bit on that terrible event, we tried in vain to reject this notion that such horrendous act from the part of a human being was even possible. Yet, we still stand perplexed in the face of this blatant reality that has shaken our very inner being, and brought to surface our deepest emotions.
In an unprecedented manner, the entire world has witnessed thousands of innocent souls disappearing in a few hours. Many, holding hands have jumped to their death, as courageous men and women watched helpless. Like the priest, who died given his last rites to a fireman, many others also have put themselves in harm's way in an attempt to save lives. Certainly, we were not ready for the scale of such a devastating blow to our great nation, nor were our enemies ready for the astounding resolve and determination of our people in this most dire moment. In trying to weaken us, they have made us rather stronger. More than ever we stand united to face this evasive monster, and thwart its malicious plans before they could even be conceived. To quote the Bible, "an eye for eye." Soon we will have to flip the other side of the coin.
On a more important note, we all can agree that destiny is stronger then us. Unfortunately, we have no control over when or where we die. For this reason alone, we should remind ourselves to cherish every moment spent with our love ones, all the while letting them know how much we care.
To my understanding, there's not a single person in the US, whose life has not been affected by this senseless tragedy. Matter-of-factly, my own father was at Newark airport, in New Jersey, at the time the ill-fated flight 93 took off for San Francisco. Just like the other countless, hapless passengers, he could well have been in that plane. Thus, faced with this incredible close call, I don't merely have an interest in seeing these SOBs brought to justice, but I crave the day it will be done, the day when this demonic ideology of terrorism will be swept from the face of the earth. The enemies of humanity may scoff at the idea, it may take years, it may take more lives, but I remain confident it will be done. It is more than necessary; it is inherent to the very survival of the human race itself.
On behalf of my friends and family, I wish to convey our most sincere condolences to all those affected by the tragedy of September 11, and take the opportunity to recognize and salute the brave firemen, police officers, doctors, nurses, rescue workers and volunteers, to name just a few, who have donated their time in helping to cope with this heartrending calamity.
